Niagara Falls is the largest and most powerful waterfall in North America. Water rushing over the falls creates a heavy mist that coats nearby roads and buildings in every month of the year. For years people have been drawn to the falls as a natural attraction and some have seen it as a challenge. On October 24, 1901, 63-year-old Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to go over the falls in a barrel as a publicity stunt; she survived, bleeding, but virtually unharmed.
