Jack pine trees range from 30-72 feet tall, don’t tend to grow perfectly straight or symmetrical, and their pine cones will only release seeds when exposed to extreme heat – greater than 50°C or extreme cold – lower than -46°C. The natural way for a jack pine to regenerate is in a forest fire. In the aftermath of a forest fire the ground can seem desolate and devoid of life, and yet in the depths of that wilderness new life may be starting.
We all have wilderness times in our lives – even Jesus, times when it seems like we are surrounded by nothing but wasteland. In those moments God plants seeds of new life in us and around us. We may not see them right away, but they are there, waiting for the right moment to blossom. What seeds is God planting in your life right now? What is it within you that is sitting just below the surface, waiting to blossom? |
