When a Lego set is first opened and the pieces are poured out onto a table, it can be almost impossible to imagine that the chaos on the table will ever become anything like the picture on the box. However, with some patience and guidance from the instructions, a new creation often does come out looking just like the picture the designers provided. In the book of Genesis we hear that into primeval chaos God spoke and created order. God’s creation was a place of wonder and miracles and connections, and when God saw it all together, God said “It is very good.” We live and move and have our being in that creation – we interact with it every day, but it is no longer all good. The chaos of violence, greed and environmental damage threatens the goodness of God’s creation. Today we are invited to listen for the word God speaks to us, and in listening perhaps we will discover the instructions for re-creation God is asking us to be part of. |
