Rosemont United Church's roots go back to July 1914 when Methodist classess were started in Mr. Blakesley's garage. In 1915 a one-room church building was built at the corner of 8th Ave. and Minto Street and Methodist services were held on a regular basis.
In 1925 the United Church of Canada was formed through a union of Methodist, Congregational and Presbyterian churches in Canada, and the Rosemont church that started in a garage became part of the United Church of Canada. As the Rosemont area of Regina developed, so did the congregation. In 1930 the church moved to a new location at 8th Ave. and Arthur Street. After more than 20 years at that location, the congregation outgrew the building and in 1952 broke ground for a new church at its current location at 8th Ave. and McInstosh Street. Rosemont, like many North American churches, experienced a huge boom following the Second World War and membership numbers swelled. In 1960 the church expanded its building by adding a new Christian Education wing. In more recent years the congregation’s size has decreased, but its faith remains strong. The people of Rosemont continue to worship God each week and trust that God is active among them – calling them forward into a new future. |
