Sometimes a fence makes a good neighbour. Other times the barriers we construct around ourselves can lead to isolation, sorrow, or even pain.  There can be vast differences between our neighbours, or even our families, and ourselves and this may prompt us to want to put up even bigger barriers to protect ourselves. 

There are times when the barriers around us may seem insurmountable. But when God looks at us, rather than seeing a whole lot of people who should be kept separate, God sees a beautiful quilt of humanity – filled with many colours, gifts, and personalities that fit better together than apart.
